Our winter picnic spot at Kakra Mirjapur : visit to Baba Loknath Mandir at Kochua dham

It was a cool winter morning on 30Th December 2012 and we are out for family picnic. We have made our plan ready  to enjoy the picnic in a bucolic environment   at Kakra Mirja Nagar near Basirhat . This is not a conventional picnic spot. We have booked a Farm house near Kakra Mirja Nagar Station, 50 off form Kolkata and very close to Basirhat .

Our picnic spot was a garden house owned by local school teacher Najibor Rahman .  It was a big garden full of mango trees and surrounded by fields decorated with seasonal flowers, vegetables, bamboo jungle.  A small village PathSala beside our picnic spot creating a perfect charm for us to enjoy the proximity of village school.

Another attraction of this place is Baba Loknath Mandir at Kochua . From our picnic spot it is 3 Km journey. We took local van to reach Kochua . Koucha is a nice place to spend time with your family and have darsan of Baba Loknath .

Other places to visit are:

Santidham –it’s beautiful garden near Kochua dham . You can reach there by 5 min walk from Dham  . Recently they renovated this garden with lots of flowers , statues , play garden and a well decorated picnic spot .

I have gone 4 times to Baba Loknath Mandir at Kochua . But this time we went there with my fellow picnic friends . So enjoyment was different. Visit Dham before 12 Noon.

Road Journey to Baba Loknath Mandir at Kochua :

Most of the time , I have visited there by road journey  . From Kolkata is it about 50 Km Journey. You have to reach Barasat , then take Taki Road , drive about 30 Km and take right turn at Swarup Nagar from Taki Road . Road condition is not good at certain places.

You can reach Kochua Loknath Mandir by Train , take Hashnabad Local from Sealdha and drop at Kakra Mirja Nagar Station , take local van to reach the spot in 10-15 min .

Trust me, most of the times I went there by my car, but rail journey is more comfortable as road condition is not good there.

Old Kali Mandir : Local people claim this Temple is 400 years old . Last time  I saw it in dilapidated state .This time someone renovated this mandir . This is 1 km from Loknath Mandir .

During our picnic day, we have enjouyed all these places in 2-3 hours . Then came back to picnic spot around 2 P.M and finished our lunch . Then we went out in nearby field  to see the vegetables plantation . Local farmers were plucking vegetables in their sacks. We enjoyed our time while fetching vegetables from garden and fields.

Slowly sun set behind paddy fields we boarded on our car for returning back to house. We could not realize how the time has been passed while playing and touring in rural environments.

  1. Dear Mr Roy,

I just chanced upon your blog and loved your posts. It reflects the true nature lover in you.
I am particularly interested in spending a day in kakra mirjapur for a family picnic. Can you please share the contact details of the gentleman whose garden house you had visited during your family picnic.
Wishing you and your family a happy Christmas and a great New Year ahead

    Best Regards

    • Thank you Mr. Coomer ,

Wishing you a happy new year 2014 too !

The ganden house where we did pour picnic , is a private property of a local school master . He is very respected locally and we got that place through of our personal contact .

However , you can try the designated picnic spot near Santidham –it’s beautiful garden near Kochua dham . You can reach there by 5 min walk from Kochua Dham . That’s a good place for family picnic .

      Hope this helps .

Very nice blog. The place is very nice and serene.I have visited this Kachua dham twice,it is near Kankra Mirzanagar Station at Bashirhat.Your pictures are very beautiful..just like the place.I have come to know from many reliable sources that this the one and only true birthplace of Baba Lokenath, not others.Although the place still needs a lot of development.I will surely visit this place very soon.

    • Thanks for your view .. This is nice for for a weekend tour or picnic or just visit for mental peace . Thanks
